What must I do to apply for graduate work in chemical engineering at Iowa State University? You need to submit an application for admission to the Admissions Office along with a fee, official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, and three letters of recommendation.
You also need to submit GRE scores (you will not need to take the subject test) and a TOEFL score. Official copies of these documents are required. We cannot accept photocopies.
I cannot afford to pay the application fee. Can I defer the fee until I am admitted? The application fee cannot be deferred or waived under any circumstances. Your application cannot be evaluated until the application fee is paid and all official documents are received.
I cannot afford to have official copies of the GRE and TOEFL scores sent. Can I send photocopies? We must have original copies before we can review your application materials.
On what basis are decisions made and can you give me an estimation/evaluation on my chances? Decisions are based on evaluation of your undergraduate (and/or graduate) record, GRE scores, TOEFL and letters of recommendation.
We cannot evaluate or estimate your chances of admission until we receive your completed application materials. You may use the guidelines in the letter to estimate your chances. Meeting the minima is not a guarantee of acceptance as we have many more such applicants than we are able to accept. However, meeting the minima does make it worth your while to apply.
Do you require contacting faculty members and getting a sponsor before being admitted? Students are admitted and then required to choose a faculty advisor and research project from the list provided upon arrival. Major professor assignments will be made during the first semester.
Is there a separate form or application for financial aid? All students who apply to the department are automatically considered for financial aid in the form of research or teaching assistantships. No separate forms are needed.
What is the deadline for applying for admission? January 1 for the following fall term and October 1 for the spring term.
Will you consider my application before my final semester's transcripts are mailed? If you otherwise meet the qualifications for the department, you may be accepted pending receipt of your final transcripts.
