Students enrolled in the College of Engineering APEXE program have kicked off their summer of transition to Iowa State and are spending time in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE).
The Academic Program for EXcellence for Engineers (APEXE) is an intensive eight-week summer bridge program designed to increase the success rate of incoming multicultural, first-year engineering students who have just graduated from high school. Participants, some of whom are undecided about which engineering discipline to pursue, are exposed to all departments in the College of Engineering through the program.
While in CBE the incoming students received an overview of the chemical and biological engineering field, learned about academics in the major, and how chemical and biological engineering impacts the world. They were able to meet members of the department faculty, performed simple experiments and received lab tours.
