What do you do in your current role?

As a System Engineer, my primary function is to provide production engineering support for our cereal manufacturing systems.  This requires daily interaction with many levels of personnel, focusing on improving our productivity and quality at a competitive cost, while maintaining a safe workplace for our employees.

As I have matured in this role, I have had the opportunity to engage in many activities outside the plant.  I teach several courses in cereal manufacturing at our R&D center in Minneapolis each year.  I also have opportunities to travel to other plant locations periodically to provide technical support and to learn new ways to address production challenges.

Why General Mills?

I was really excited by the opportunities within General Mills for professional and personal growth.  Professionally, focus on individual development starts from day 1, with a variety of new hire development programs that are available.  This continues through one’s career with repeated discussions about goals and motivations, and is supported through the broad range of opportunities available through the many businesses in the General Mills family.  Personal growth is supported through a very diverse group of people I get to work with, and the opportunity to participate in some of the many community and charitable activities General Mills supports.

How do you like to spend your free time?

When I’m not working at General Mills, I spend a fair amount of my time working with a nutritional supplement business that I purchased last year.  When all work is aside, I like to travel with my wife Tess, also a General Mills employee and ISU alum.  We both like to socialize and spend time with our friends.  Outdoor activities are always fun – golf, fishing, camping – and watching baseball in the summer and college football games in the fall.
