L. K. Doraiswamy, Anson Marston Distinguished Professor Emeritus, was named recipient of the 2004 William H. Walker Award for Excellence in Contributions to Chemical Engineering Literature by the board of directors of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Conferred since 1936, the Walker award is presented to an AIChE member who has made outstanding contributions to the chemical engineering literature in the preceding three years. The award, which includes $5,000 and a plaque, was presented November 7 at the AIChE 2004 Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas.
Doraiswamy is one of the founding fathers of modern chemical engineering in India and a leader in the field worldwide. His work in theoretical and experimental catalytic reaction engineering, gas-solid non-catalytic reactions, phase-transfer catalysis, and sonochemical reaction engineering has helped to establish organic synthesis engineering as a modern discipline. Iowa State and India’s National Chemical Laboratory jointly sponsor the annual Doraiswamy Lecture Series in his honor, bringing leading scholars in the field to both campuses.
