New charging stations in Sweeney will keep devices, and students, functioning

Students in Chemical and Biological Engineering’s home of Sweeney Hall will have a new convenience ready and waiting for them when classes resume in August: electronic device charging stations in two parts of the building.

The charging station coffee tables in the Sweeney lobby feature a total of 36 charging cords which can accommodate different devices.

The Mike & Jean Steffenson Student Services Center has received one of the Charge-Tec “Cyclone Power” stations purchased by the College of Engineering; and the department has also added its own glass-topped coffee table charging stations in the lobby of Sweeney. In all, there are now 44 separate charging cords available, outfitted to accommodate various mobile devices, located in Sweeney Hall.

“Students live on their mobile devices and they constantly need to charge them,” said Sadie Johnson, who coordinates undergraduate recruitment in Engineering Student Services, adding that the service is “something people have come to expect – especially from a college of engineering and technology.”

The Charge-Tec stations purchased by the College of Engineering have also been placed in the Biorenewables Complex, Black Engineering, Coover Hall, The Durham Center, Hoover Hall, Howe Hall and the Town Engineering Building, and more locations may be added in the future.
