Chemical Engineering Lab Assistant (Student)
Job Description: The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Iowa State University seeks a lab assistant in January 2017 to serve as technician for the Unit Operations Laboratory. The position will require an average of 12-15 hours/wk over the 15 weeks of the semester. 8-10 hours each week will include supervision and assistance of students in the laboratory, and as a result must be during times when the ChE 325/426 courses are in session. Up to 6 hours each week could be at other times to work on projects and maintenance. Work hours during breaks are negotiable. Responsibilities will be to assist with maintenance and startup of equipment, provide assistance to instructor with ongoing projects, provide assistance to students during class hours, and test new and current equipment to be used in the classes.
Job Skills/Requirements: Excellent past performance in ChE 325 and/or other laboratory courses with course grades and references from the instructors to support this. Evidence of similar performance in a course such as ChE 490 could be a useful supporting qualification. Evidence of willingness to assist other students with laboratory issues. Preferred qualification for one of the positions includes knowledge of/desire to learn application of LabView software to experiments. Availability to schedule suitable working hours.
